Day One - Excavation and Top Soil

The excavator  showed up at 6:45 A.M.  The good news is we were up and waiting for them.  After a little discussion the guys decided to take out a couple more small oaks and a fairly large red cedar.  The oaks were in the way of the walk out basement.  The red cedar was smack in the middle of the driveway.  I don't know how we had missed that one.

By noon the shape of the house was obvious.  More good news, so far, no rock!!

This little pile was ALL of the top soil that was removed from the site.  Oh, I remember, there is more top soil on prairie land than on forest land.  My college Soils Science professor would be so proud.
